Showers feature 3 star WELS ratings using a maximum 9 litres of water per minute - as compared to ordinary full flow showers which use up to 22 litres per minute.Flexispray tapware water flows are regulated to minimise water wastage. Our ceramic discs are also a permanent solution against dripping. Most basin and sink mixers for bathroom, kitchen and laundries also come with a 3 star WELS water saving guarantee.
WELS is Australia's water efficiency labelling scheme, which allows consumers to compare the water efficiency of different products. By buying more water-efficient products you can save money on water and electricity bills and help the environment.
The rating system is similar to the energy rating labelling, with six stars. The more stars the better. As well as a star rating the labels also show a water consumption or water flow figure. WELS products
The WELS scheme applies to the following products:
- Plumbing products
- showers
- tap equipment
The star rating and water consumption/flow figures on the product label are based on rigorous and independent water efficiency tests.Choosing more efficient products helps Australia save water.By 2021 Australians could save more than $600 million through reduced water and energy bills by simply choosing more efficient products.
By 2021 it is estimated that using water efficient products will help to:
Reduce domestic water use by five per cent or 87,200 megalitres each year.
Save about 610,000 megalitres (more water than in Sydney Harbour).
Nearly half the water savings will come from more efficient washing machines, about 25 per cent from showers and 22 per cent from toilets.
By choosing to use more water-efficient products in the home, Australians will save water and cut down on water and energy bills.
A standard showerhead may use up to 25 litres of water per minute. A water-efficient showerhead might use as little as seven litres per minute.
Methven tapware are 3, 4 and 6 star WELS rated. The majority of Methven showers are 3 star rated, releasing a maximum of 9 litres of water per minute, compared to conventional full flow showers, which release 22 litres per minute.
Please note that shower mixers, spouts and any other accessories do not require a WELS rating. With shower mixers the water saving device is integrated in the shower unit and with spouts it makes no sense to restrict water while filling your bath.
